These studies by Simandl are a must for any doublebassist. They are meant first for the development of tone and they certainly have that effect on your playing if you practise them. To take this further, you can now practise them with piano accompaniment so you can enhance your tone. Further, practising playing all sorts of pieces with the piano. The only thing that is missing in this score is the score to the piano accompaniments, though that would make it more expensive. The double-bassist who plays on the CD's is certainly professionnal, but I heard sudden jabs in the dynamics that could have been retaken during the recording.
